Indian High Commission Extends Warm Wishes to Team Ghana as They Embark on the First Historic Kho Kho World Cup

The Ghana Kho Kho Federation (GKKF) is proud to announce its participation in the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place from January 12th to 20th in India. This historic event marks a significant milestone for Ghana as the team prepares to showcase their skill, resilience, and cultural pride on the global stage.

Team Ghana received an encouraging message from Mr. Satkholen Franky, the Consular at the Indian High Commission in Accra, during a recent meeting with the Federation. In a heartfelt video message, Mr. Franky expressed his admiration for the team, saying, “Though I am Indian, I am fully supporting Ghana in this coming World Cup.” After watching the team’s training videos, he also commended their impressive performance and assured his support for the growth of Kho Kho in Ghana.

Mr. Franky’s inspiring message underscores the strong cultural ties between Ghana and India, both of which share a deep appreciation for indigenous sports. The Consular’s words have further motivated the team as they prepare to represent Ghana alongside fellow African nations Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda, as well as some of the world’s sporting powerhouses, including India, Australia, and England, at the World Cup.

Celebrating Indigenous Sports: Kho Kho and Antoe Kyere

Kho Kho shares remarkable similarities with Ghana’s traditional game, Antoe Kyere, which also emphasizes teamwork, agility, and strategic movement. This connection highlights the universal appeal of indigenous games as tools for fostering community, cultural preservation, and international collaboration.

The Journey of Kho Kho in Ghana

Ghana’s journey in Kho Kho began in 2020, when four alumni from the University of Ghana’s Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies attended the first Kho Kho coaching camp in India. This initiative was facilitated by SportDrive Inc. through the INDIGAME project, which aimed to formalize and promote indigenous games in Ghana’s sports landscape.

Since then, the Ghana Kho Kho Federation, with the invaluable support of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, has introduced Kho Kho to schools and communities across the country. These efforts have laid the foundation for Ghana’s participation in the World Cup, where they will compete alongside other African nations, including Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda.

Gratitude to Key Supporters

The Ghana Kho Kho Federation extends its deepest gratitude to the International Kho Kho Federation (IKKF) and the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) for their immense contributions to the growth of Kho Kho in Ghana and the world. Their unwavering support and mentorship have been instrumental in the Federation’s success.

The Ghana Kho Kho Federation extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their unwavering support and commitment to the development of Kho Kho in Ghana. Their involvement has been instrumental in ensuring the team’s successful preparation and participation in the World Cup.

Special thanks also go to the University of Ghana Sports Directorate for its ongoing partnership in nurturing Kho Kho players and promoting the sport’s development at the grassroots level. The Federation also acknowledges the Indian High Commission in Ghana, particularly Mr. Satkholen Franky, for their encouragement and goodwill ahead of the tournament.

Call to Action: Rally Behind Team Ghana

The Kho Kho World Cup is a testament to Ghana’s commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous sports on the global stage. As the team prepares to compete, the Federation calls on all Ghanaians to rally behind Team Ghana, celebrating this moment of national pride and cultural exchange.
