Poland Kho Kho Captain Dagmara Skirzynska in Sunday KhoKho Series World Edition

Poland  team showed great skills and competition with other countries in 1st KhoKho WorldCup 2025 held at New Delhi ,India  organised by KKFI and IKKF.This team showed a  good example of team spirit, action, dives, stamina, strategy that attracts the audience from all over the world.Today in Sunday KhoKho Series we are Introducing Captain of Poland Women Team Dagmara who got injured during the Worldcup with a never give up attitude. She is very brave and a true player of KhoKho  .

Q 1. How Kho-Kho started in Poland?
Ans 1 Kho-Kho in Poland started 3 years ago when Satyam and Sombir came to our university. They showed us this game and asked if we wanted to try it. For us it was obvious that it was, because kho kho is very similar to our Polish game that we play when we are children and we call it “Berek”.

Q2. Can you explain about Berek in detail?

Ans 2 Yeah sure, at the beginning, one person is chosen to be the berek. Their task is to catch up with any player, tap to them and shout “berek!”. The person touched in this way becomes the berek and now they chase the others.

Q3. What difference you seen in KhoKho in worldcup as compared to game you played in Poland?
Ans 3 In Poland we played kho-kho more traditionally with 9 players playing. Due to ground and lack of sufficient time, we played without poles. Position that shocked us the most after arriving in India was the wazir because we don’t know any rules of wazir movement and etc. One day before the scheduled match we had to learn these rules. The next thing we had to learn was skydives because we knew that professional players played like this but unfortunately we did not have enough time to learn. So we tried in match to recreate moves as many times as we watched the other matches. On kho kho World Cup we need to play as 7 people on ground with wazir so for us it’s completely new, but I think we handled it well.

Q4. What you gain from KhoKho World Cup?

Ans 4. I think that first of all is experience, we already know what to do to improve our game on ground, what mistakes we made and now we will do everything to improve it. We have seen many matches and now I think that we should act. More work awaits us in terms of training, thinking, tactics and even individual work on ourselves to improve speed, agility, endurance and concentration. We learn from the best because we have seen all the matches of India, now what is left for us is to continue.
The second thing that we gained from Kho Kho World Cup 2025 is unforgettable views, people, food, memories and atmosphere that we will remember for the rest of our lives. We were taken great care of and we are very grateful for this opportunity.

Q5.As a captain How you motivated the players during matches in Worldcup?
Ans. 5 Each player reacts differently to pressure. I tried to motivate them and analyze who has what strengths and weaknesses to understand the nature of their problems, to adjust motivation. for some there were warm words of support, for some you have to improve this and that and for some a hug. Secondly, I think that a good motivator is setting a common goal of what we want to achieve during the match. As a captain I was simply there and supported my players in every aspect of the game and outside the game. Communication on the ground also plays a big role, because when someone succeeds, the motivation immediately goes up and there was always a response from me saying good job or when I saw that we needed changes, I shouted change target or short kho or long kho. So that’s I motivated players during matches and World Cup. During the championship we had a certain sentence that we stuck to: if it doesn't work out, keep trying until it works out, believe in yourself.

Q6. How you prepared yourself for the world cup?

Ans. 6 I think that the training did its job and the additional training that I did on my own helped a lot. During the training we practiced more the rules and tactics and during the individual training I tried to improve my endurance, speed, agility. I won't hide the fact that I do a lot of sports every day which really helped a lot because at the university we have a lot of physical education classes, I am a physical education teacher in primary school and a parkour coach. Before training kho kho I was a volleyball player. So there was some physical preparation somewhere. Long before the championship I also sat down with video analysis to see how to improve my skills and what I could show, what I could advise the team to play better.

Q7.Any match in the world cup that becomes memory for you forever. How and why?
Ans 7.I think the match we played with Indonesia, our first match. We were all stressed, the first time at such a big event as the Kho Kho World Cup 2025. We heard a lot about Indonesia, that they play longer than us in Kho Kho. For us it is a very big success. Whenever I remember it, I still feel emotions how hard we tried to win in the last seconds. And we did it, we won. That joy after winning, something wonderful.

Q8. As you injured in world cup.Whats going on your mind as its very hard to miss the crucial matches?
Ans 8.After the match with South Africa I knew that I had done more than my body could, on the one hand I did everything to win the match but the coach and I did not think this decision through. on the one side it was satisfaction because despite losing we did not give up and gave 100%. on the other side we could have played it differently and given the first 7 a rest because we still had two matches ahead of us. when after the match with south africa after the official end I got behind the barriers and I knew it was over, that I had no strength left and my leg gave out, I still remember the physiotherapist coming up to me and saying that we had to go because there would be another match soon and we had to leave the stadium, then I said I couldn't and everyone was in disbelief but as. I went to the medical point at the stadium, they said that I had to rest for a day and everything would be fine, so I hoped that it would pass tomorrow and that nothing happened. the next day I still couldn't feel my foot so for me it was a disappointment, I knew that no matter how hard I tried, begged and pleaded the coach and my team wouldn't let me on the pitch in this condition. I knew it was over and the most important matches were ahead of us, I felt like I had let my team and myself down because I did everything to avoid getting injured and didn’t worked out. it was a very difficult experience for me. of course somewhere in my head I still blame myself that if it wasn't for the injury I would have played and maybe then we would have won the match against Peru because we almost won that match.
