Every year Khel Mahakumb is conducted by Gujarat government to uplift the game culture in India as recently Honourable Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi has inaugrated the Khel MahaKumb on 11 march 2022 in Gujarat to give a message that now sports will be lifted and every necessary step must be taken to improve game culture in India ,so that our players will give results in upcoming Asian,Olympics , all National and International tournament to make India on top . As today in World Famous Sunday Kho-Kho Series we are covering Gujarat State through the words of Gujarat Kho-Kho Coach Mr. Sudeep as he was caught by our columnist.Thanks Mr. Sudeep to be part of our Series so that world will know about Kho-Kho.
Q1.When you started Kho-Kho?
Ans.When I was 9 years old.
Q2. As You belong to Gujarat .What are the plans to improvise Kho-Kho there?
Ans. Many years ago, Gujarat had a name in the Kho-Kho world, Gujarat has also won many national level competitions and Gujarat has given many international players as well as three Arjuna Awardees to the country. For this, more and more players will have to be motivated to play. Many schemes are being run by the Gujarat government for the purpose of promoting sports, one of which is the District Level Sports School scheme, in which the Gujarat government pays all the expenses of the players from playing to lodging and boarding, in this scheme, we are giving money for Kho Kho. Going to the root level, the coaches search for talent by identifying their talent and then they are given admission under this scheme and then they are prepared for the upcoming competition, followed by other schemes, Center of Excellence, in which the players stay at their center and do regular Kho-Kho. They have to practice, for this they are given stiphen on a monthly basis by the government, apart from this, there is the Shakti Doot scheme, through which the players are given funds from time to time by the Gujarat government to go to the competition at the international level. Khel Mahakumbh is organized by the Government of Gujarat every year to raise the level and to encourage the game, apart from this we proposed Kho-Kho Academy to focus more on senior players. In the coming time, when the academy opens, I hope that Kho Kho players can give better performance in future and earn medals for Gujarat and the country.
Q3. What is the role of Coach for a team?
Ans.
The role of the coach is to define the vision, develop the team roster, and provide guidance throughout the teaming process on the steps needed to create and properly execute the goals. Sport Coaches is to encourage healthy development in players, Coaches are important role models for children and youths and along with parents, are significant adult influences. How coaches interact with players determines the outcomes of participation. Therefore, coaches play a vital role in the contribution of sport to physical and psycho social development.Sport has been associated with positive experiences and outcomes, such as improved confidence and academic achievement. However, it’s also been linked with negative experiences and outcomes, such as stress, burnout, dropout and low self-esteem.
Q4. Gujarat produced best players of India ,Few years back .I think 1st Arjuna Awardee is from Gujarat .There is decline in team performance from Gujarat .What you think ,What is the reason?
Ans.
I belong from Indore Madhya Pradesh I had joined Sports Authority of Gujarat 2011 as far as I think earlier the number of qualified coaches in Gujarat was also less since almost 2008 the recruitment process of qualified coaches started in Sports Authority of Gujarat After that, with the coordination of all the coaches and with the support of the Gujarat Association, we started working hard on the players again, it took us about 4 years to get the medal for Gujarat at the national level and then the Gujarati players have been successful in that, even if it is in the sub-junior category. Be it junior category or senior category, the players of Gujarat have earned medals in all categories and have brought laurels to Gujarat and the country.
Q5. You attended the National Coaching of KKFI ,one of its kind .What you gain from the camp.Is it really beneficial?
Ans. Kho-Kho Federation of India is doing a very commendable work for the development of Kho-Kho game, just as it is a matter of great pride for a sportsperson to participate in the national camp, in the same way it is also a matter of great pride for the Kochis to participate in the national camp. There is a great achievement when we participate in the national camp as a coach, we also get to learn the training means and method of other coaches. All the coaches have different training philosophy, so the training method of different coaches is different. Maybe the principle of a good coach should be that there should be a state camp or a national camp coach should share his knowledge as much as possible to the players so that their performance can be better in future, the players in the national level camp stay in the discipline. Efforts should be made to take as much knowledge as possible, in this camp the players get to learn more and more, that different types of players from all the states come to participate there, Kho Kho is a team game and team. I always get to learn something or the other when the player If I play there with the players of the state, then their learning ability is also improved and elite players are also recognized. With the guideline of the coach, we can show good performance in the upcoming competitions.
Q6. As in most of the states employement policy is more favourable towards other games as compared to Kho-Kho.Kho-Kho players are not getting proper benefits as they are capable of.What steps must be taken by Federation to improvise job demand for Kho-Kho players.
Ans. Now the time is changing, in the earlier comparison, today players are getting jobs in many places, as far as I am concerned, KKFI is making every effort for the benefit of the players, so that even after the sports life of the player, they have a bright future. For that they get a job in any good organization.
Q7. Cricket is Gentleman game but Kho-Kho is star game? Any Comments.
Ans. Kho-Kho is a popular game and will always be there. There are no two opinions for it. Kho-Kho has a different charm of the game which cannot be ignored. I think the mother of all game should be Kho-Kho because it has all the physical components. Come what is necessary for a game, Kho-Kho game should not be compared with cricket because the merits of these two games are different, but we hope that our game touches more heights in the coming time.
Q8. What policies must be applied by the government to improvise indigenous game of India so that our Indian origin games become popular?
Ans.
To take forward the Kho Kho game, the government should recruit more and more qualified coaches, the more coaches there are, the higher will be the level of competition in the whole country and specific funds should be allocated for the development of Kho Kho game. International competition should be organized, even in big events like Olympics and Asian Games, everyone should do the indigenous game Khokho for approval.

Ans. The founders of Voice of International Player Sunday Kho-Kho series are doing a wonderful job by identifying good players and coaches from time to time and giving them popularity as well sharing the knowledge around the globe through Sunday Kho-Kho Series.
