(Former Kho-Kho Player)
Lakhwinder Singh one of the former player of J&K who was known for his one step pole dive as he did lots of hard work to master this skill and score valuable points against good teams of India.He become a role model of many players of Kho-Kho.This Sunday Kho-Kho series is dedicated to him.As he was caught up by our columnist Ms.Shamily Sharma .Thanks to Lakhwinder Singh for giving his valuable time to VOIP team so that upcoming generation and Kho-Kho lovers all over the world will gain about Kho-Kho.
Ans. When I played Kho-Kho first it's very hard and fast. This thing inspires me to play Kho-Kho as it's a real test of the toughness of a player that helps us to play with the challenges of life also.
Q2. When you started Kho-Kho?
Ans. 1990-91.
Q3. What are your achievements?
1.Pool Qualifier in Sr. National Tournament 1995.
2.Bronze Medal North Zone Championship.
3.Gold Medal in District Championships.
4.Man of the match performances.
Q4. What difference do you saw between 1990 and 2020 Kho-Kho?
Ans. In 1990 Kho-Kho was less popular. Later on, the Railway team has been formed and Kho-Kho gets good popularity all over the world. More international tournaments, the standard of tournament increases, and also the announcement of the ultimate Kho-Kho league boast more players to join kho-kho as a career game. From a skill perspective, Kho-Kho's skills are more than time and the game is played on mud only. Now the game is shifted to mats as well and skills are less, game is shifted to speed with fewer fouls and a short dimension of ground.
Q5. In Kho-Kho what's your fav skill and how you prepared for it.
Ans. My favorite skill is one-step pole dive. I love the moment when I out the player through pole dive and after taking the point and uttering the 'marla' word gives me the sensational feeling that I still feel. When I watched players of other states doing the one step pole dive I felt good and I practiced the same and in the beginning, it's difficult to grip the pole between while throwing the body on pole from eight positions but with practice, I master this skill and I strive for perfection. I always felt good when I do skills that are difficult and rare.
Q6. As you prepared teams of various schools and they performed well.As you work against your profession as well as you are Electrical Engineer.How you manage this.
Ans. I always desire to train players and they will perform well that's why I worked in KV that was against my profession as I did Diploma in 3 years in Electrical. But due to my passion for the game, I worked in KV for 7 years and every time my team got gold in KVS tournaments that were the loving and unforgettable moment of my life. This thing gives real pleasure as I trained them hard and they give results.
Q7. What are your suggestions to improve Kho-Kho performances in tournaments?
Ans. Camp time must be minimum 25-30 days so that players get the good combination and as well good diet must be taken as it is a very hard game. Its team game players must plan accordingly. There must be a plan from third to pole to secure points. Strategy, planning, execution of plans is very important according to the situation makes this game superb as it involves each neuron as well as muscles to participate for better performances.
Q9. As you are one of the top player J&K team. What are your views on youngsters?
Ans. It's a team game. For perfect planning, the team must be balanced. This helps players to do right and accurately execute the moves.
Q10. Any words for the Kho-Kho game.
Ans. If you have a love for the game and if you play sports with dedication and devotion you become strong physically and mentally. This helps to make decisions about life in the right manner and gives you a fearless attitude.
Q11. Can you brief a little about your team and players of the JK Kho-Kho team?
Ans. My batch was one of the best combinations I had ever seen. Our teammate includes Dhirender (Sr. Player), Suresh, Sandeep Handoo, Dhiraj Sharma, Satvir, Charanjit, Amarinder, Mohinder Parbhat, Palvinder, Sandeep Kapila, Sunil, Jagjeet, Vikram, Mandeep, Manmeet.
A batch of Pankaj,Deepak, Jhujar, Anuj, Avikash, David, Sunil, Jagjeet, Gagan was also one of the better combinations I had ever seen in the whole Jammu Kashmir.
Q12. Any words for the Voice of International Player?
Ans. The Voice of an international player campaign to popularise Kho-Kho is very impressive as it inspires many people to join Kho-Kho as well as it boasts players' motivation towards Kho-Kho.l really feel happy that it's your love and passion for the game that is now become a source of inspiration for many and giving worldwide publicity to Kho-Kho.
