Ms.Neha Duggal Columnist caught up with
P.Anand Kumar of Telangana in a sole conversation as he cast off a breath on Kho-Kho.

 Q1. When you started Kho-Kho?

Ans: When I was in 8th standard in 2002.

Q2. Where you started Kho-Kho?

Ans. I belong to EllantaKunta Village of Telangana. I started Kho-Kho there.

Q3. How you started Kho-Kho?

Ans. I belong to a poor family as I studied up to 7 standards in Pvt.school. Due to the low income of the family, it is difficult for me to continue in pvt. school so I join Govt.school and there was a coach Mahendra Rao. He trained students of govt schools in Kho-Kho. I watched him giving coaching to players and usually, we did jumping and other playing stuff. He identifies me and trained me to play Kho-Kho.

                     (Coach Mr.Mahendar Rao)

Q4. As you belong to a poor family. It's very difficult for you to continue sports with studies?

Ans. Yes, As I am younger of three brothers my father decided to support me so that I can continue sports and he never gave any work to me. As my family had little tea stall cum hotel where villagers come to eat and drink. They had to clean utensils and serve things to the customer.

Q5. How you join Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Academy?

Ans.

Ans.  As I got selected in the academy when I was in 10th standard but due to lack of financial support it becomes difficult for me to join the Academy. My coach was not also in Telangana at that time. We called him that I got selected in the academy so he arranged finance and help me so that I join the academy.

Q6. When did you get the job in Railways?

Ans. In 2008, I got selection in Railways based on my performance and posted in Nandherg district.

Q7. When you join the academy who was your coach there?

Ans.

                                (Mr.Bhaskar Rao)
When I was in 10th standard. My coach was Rama Krishna, Yeti Raj, Sudhakar and district coach was Bhaskar Rao. He is now Kho-Kho - Kabaddi Coach in SAI .

Q8.What are your achievements?

Ans.

Q9. Tell me about team selection in Railways for any major tournament?

Ans.3-4 months before Sr.National Tournaments. There is a camp in every zone of the railway and There is InterRailway tournament in which Central railway, South West Railway, Western Railway, South East Central Railway and  RPF (this Year) will fight each other. Based on the performance 20 players are selected for Senior National tournament camp and finally, 12 players get a place in Railway team.

Q10. If you want to select one player for your team out of three, both are same in fitness. How you select.

Ans.Based on the requirement of team Whether it requires defender, attacker or allrounder. The performance of defender, attacker and allrounder in a game helps to choose the player that is most suitable as per the need of team.

Q11. Railway Kho-Kho team has maximum players from Maharashtra. As Central Railway Team and Western Railway Team has 100% players from Maharashtra. What is the reason behind it.

Ans.Yes of course but I think players from another state must be given a chance to get job .As they practised very hard but unfortunately did not get medals. It must be balanced. Maharashtra majority is there and it's obvious that players from Maharashtra are more favourable.

Q12.How the game must be raised?

Ans. More invitational cups are required so that players get a chance. Also at National level teams from the Police department like Karnataka, electricity deptt. like Maharashtra, Bank Teams must be invited so that maximum players get job and chance to play. Maharashtra has it's Bank Team, Electricity Department team etc. but no other state has department teams. More Departmental teams must be created in every state to open the path of more jobs. Clubs must be formed to increase competition and better players.

Q13.As a few years, back Kho-Kho and Kabaddi were somehow one. As in NIS a few years back, Kho-Kho Kabaddi Coach was one. But Kabaddi has covered milestones. Why.

Ans. Yes, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho were always one few years back. But Now kabbadi is expanded because every department has raised it's kabaddi team that opens doors for Kabbadi players. Also, Success of pro league is the reason that players opt kabbadi more than Kho-Kho.NIS of Kabbadi and Kho- Kho is separate now. The higher authority must work on these things so that every department raises its Kho-Kho team. Otherwise, a highly talented player will leave Kho-Kho. Because Career is the priority for every Sportsperson. I believe that Ultimate Kho-Kho is the ray of hope for players of Kho-Kho. Lots of work is still needed to lift Kho-Kho.

Q14.In recent years AAI men team is not coming? What is the reason you think?

Ans. Yes, it's because the team did not get any medal in the recent tournament but in women, they got a medal. So policies must be formed so that team or career of players must not be based on medals. They must be permanently hired by any department. Otherwise, it will discourage them to play the game.

Q15.You are trained by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh academy. What can you say about this type of academies?

Ans. Yes, I did my training under SAP . They provided us with a proper diet and lodging which is an essential part of sportsmen training. These type of academies must be open in every state so that players which are financially weak get the proper diet and they will be trained professionally. As Telangana and A.P got separated this academy was stopped and still not opened yet. It is very difficult for most of the players to play national as they don't have sufficient money to pay their fare to be a part of national tournaments. Associations must properly utilise funds.
